The Newfoundland & Labrador Suzuki Institute (NLSI) is a week-long daycamp for young string players and their parents, to be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland from July 1st – 6th, 2018 at Rennies River Elementary School. Click here for an outline of our programs.

A rebranding of the former Atlantic Canada Suzuki Institute (ACSI), NLSI is a week-long Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) approved institute. It combines intense study, practice and performance with music-related recreational activities for a fun and challenging musical experience.

NLSI is available to participants of all ages and skill levels. Days at camp are made up of a number of different elements: group classes, masterclasses, choir time, orchestra rehearsals, chamber music, and more. And, of course, some time to have fun with a great community of families!

The Iceberg Chamber Music Institute

For the second year, we will focusing our advanced programs into a separate chamber institute that will run parallel to NLSI (same location). The Iceberg Chamber Music Institute is for advanced string players interested in gaining chamber music experience. Applicants should be at

  • Suzuki Violin book 6 or RCM violin grade 7
  • Suzuki Viola book 4 or RCM viola grade 5
  • Suzuki Cello book 4 or RCM cello grade 5
  • and/or by teacher recommendation.

ICMI acceptance will also depend on the instrumentation balance and the playing level of other applicants. While there is no specific age requirement, ICMI is designed primarily for students between ages 12 to 18. Students who apply should be highly motivated, have previous chamber music experience and have the maturity necessary for some self-direction.
