The Newfoundland & Labrador Suzuki Institute is housed in lovely Bishop Feild Elementary School (that spelling isn’t a typo!) on Bond Street in Downtown St. John’s. Built in 1926, this collegiate gothic building (and registered heritage structure) stands on a site that has hosted Bishop Feild School since the 1840s.
The classrooms at Bishop Feild are a great space for music – think high ceilings, wooden floors, big windows, and lots of light. Each day, we host concerts and meals in the beautiful auditorium. We set up a canteen in the staff lounge to serve snacks and drinks, and our ACSI students have the run of a great playground and schoolyard.
Just around the corner from Bishop Feild you’ll find Moo Moo’s, perhaps the best ice cream parlour in St. John’s. Just across Military Road is Bannerman Park, with a great green space, playground, and pool. Bond Street is just a couple blocks up the hill from Water and Duckworth Streets, the main business streets downtown – you’ll find plenty of places to eat and shop within a couple minutes walk.
